Teen Killed After Festival Crowds Disperse

According to the Rochester Police Department, the first shooting happened early Saturday morning, August 1, near North Clinton Avenue and Morrill Street as officers were attempting to disperse large crowds following Puerto Rican Festival events.

Police said 14-year-old Zah’nia Barr was struck in the upper body and died at the scene.

A second deadly shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. Sunday near Clifford Avenue and North Street.

Police said a crowd of about 100 people had gathered in a gas station parking lot, blocking traffic, when an occupant of a vehicle stopped in the roadway opened fire into the crowd.

Thirty-five-year-old Shakara Green was shot in the neck and died at the scene.

Five other victims, ranging in age from 18 to 21, suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to their lower bodies.
