A 58-year-old man was found dead with a knife lodged in his neck inside his Brooklyn apartment after police responded to a wellness check on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

Body Discovered During Wellness Check

According to the New York Police Department, officers responded at approximately 12:40 p.m. to a brownstone in the 700 block of Madison Street near Malcolm X Boulevard in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.

Police were called after neighbors reported a strong foul odor coming from the apartment.

The victim’s identity has not yet been publicly released pending family notification.

Investigation Ongoing

The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the official cause and manner of death.

While police initially said the case had not been officially classified as a homicide, detectives are now treating the death as a homicide investigation.

No arrests have been announced, and investigators continue to gather evidence.
