A newborn baby was found dead inside a north Phoenix apartment on Thursday afternoon, July 16, 2026, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Phoenix Police Department.

Infant Discovered Inside Apartment

According to Phoenix police, officers and firefighters responded around noon to the Mission Place Apartments near 7th Street and Mission Lane after receiving reports of an injured person.

When first responders arrived, they found an unresponsive newborn inside the apartment. The infant was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said no one else was inside the apartment when officers arrived.

Investigation Ongoing

Detectives said there are no obvious signs of foul play, and authorities are not searching for any suspects at this time.

Investigators have not released the cause of death or how long the infant may have been alone inside the apartment.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
