Woman’s Decomposed Body Found in Chicago’s Back of the Yards
Chicago police are investigating after the decomposed body of a woman was discovered inside a garbage can in the city’s Back of the Yards neighborhood on Saturday evening, July 11, 2026.
Body Found in Alley
According to the Chicago Police Department, officers responded to the 700 block of West 54th Street near Emerald Avenue at approximately 6:25 p.m. after reports of a body being found.
Police located the decomposing body of a woman inside a garbage can in an alley. Authorities secured the scene as detectives began gathering evidence.
Investigation Underway
Wentworth Area detectives are leading the investigation, which remains active.
Officials have not released the woman’s identity, and the circumstances surrounding her death remain unknown. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to perform an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
