2 Hillsborough County Deputies Shot in Ruskin, Suspect Hospitalized

Two Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies and a suspect were hospitalized after a shooting in Ruskin, Florida, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Deputies Airlifted After Shooting

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred on West Shell Point Road near the intersection of U.S. 41 in Ruskin.

Two deputies suffered gunshot wounds during the incident and were airlifted by Bayflite helicopter to Tampa General Hospital for treatment.

The suspect was also shot during the confrontation and transported to a local hospital. Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity or medical condition.

Investigation Ongoing

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said the scene has been secured and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Investigators have not yet disclosed what led to the shooting, and the conditions of the injured deputies have not been released.

As detectives continue processing the scene, all lanes of U.S. 41 near Shell Point Road remain closed.

Sheriff Chronister also shared video from the emergency response and asked the community to keep the injured deputies in their thoughts and prayers.
