12-Year-Old Girl Calls 911 After Finding Mother and Stepfather Dead in Texas Home

Authorities in northwest Harris County, Texas, are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after a 12-year-old girl found her mother and stepfather dead inside their Tomball-area home late Thursday night. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the child called 911 after discovering the victims.
Girl Found Mother and Stepfather Inside Home
According to investigators, the 12-year-old woke up around 11 p.m. and began looking for her mother.
She found her mother, identified as Rirus Gonzalez, unresponsive on a sofa with apparent stab wounds. The girl then discovered her stepfather, Spencer Taylor, dead in the primary bedroom.
Emergency responders arrived at the home and confirmed both adults had died.
Investigators Believe No One Else Was Involved
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said investigators found no signs of forced entry or evidence suggesting an outside suspect was involved.
Authorities reported that Gonzalez suffered multiple stab wounds, while Taylor died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A weapon was recovered at the scene as detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Detectives Review Domestic Violence History
Investigators said interviews with the child and neighbors revealed reports of previous domestic violence involving the couple.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage, speaking with witnesses, and awaiting autopsy results to determine the exact sequence of events.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Child Released to Family Friend
Officials said the 12-year-old was not physically injured.
Because immediate family members were unavailable to care for her, deputies released the child into the temporary custody of a trusted family friend while the investigation continues.
