Knicks Beat Spurs in San Antonio to Take 2-0 Finals Lead

The New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 105-104 in Game 2 of the 2026 NBA Finals on Friday night, taking a 2-0 lead in the series. The victory gives New York control of the championship matchup as the Finals shift to Madison Square Garden for Games 3 and 4.
Game 2 Comes Down to the Final Seconds
The Knicks appeared in control for much of the second half and held a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter. However, San Antonio responded with a 14-0 run to briefly move ahead late in the game.
With the score tight in the closing seconds, Jalen Brunson came up with the game’s biggest defensive play, stripping the ball from Victor Wembanyama after a missed shot attempt. Brunson was fouled on the ensuing possession and converted the decisive free throw with 9.5 seconds remaining.
San Antonio had one final opportunity, but Wembanyama’s jumper at the buzzer missed, allowing New York to escape with the one-point victory.

Knicks Balanced Attack Leads the Way
New York received contributions from several key players in the win.
Karl-Anthony Towns recorded 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Jalen Brunson added 20 points. Mikal Bridges also scored 20 points and contributed six rebounds and six assists.
The balanced offensive effort helped the Knicks withstand San Antonio’s late comeback attempt.
Wembanyama Shines Despite Loss
Victor Wembanyama delivered another standout performance for the Spurs, finishing with 29 points and nine rebounds.
De’Aaron Fox added 20 points and five assists, helping fuel San Antonio’s fourth-quarter rally.
Despite the strong individual performances, the Spurs now face a difficult challenge as the series moves to New York.

Knicks Move Closer to Historic Championship
The win places the Knicks in rare company. New York became just the third team in the modern NBA era to win the first two games of the Finals on the road.
The victory also extended the Knicks’ postseason winning streak to 13 games, one of the longest playoff streaks in league history.
New York is now two wins away from capturing its first NBA championship since 1973.
Series Heads to Madison Square Garden
With a 2-0 advantage, the Knicks will return home looking to move within one victory of a title. The Spurs, meanwhile, must find a way to respond on the road and avoid falling into a nearly insurmountable deficit.
Game 3 is set to take place at Madison Square Garden, where New York fans will have their first chance to watch the Finals in person.
