Ilhan Omar Seeks Donations as Scrutiny of Her Immigration Status Intensifies
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) is asking supporters for more financial help as she prepares to return to the campaign trail and challenge a federal investigation into her immigration status.
The progressive “Squad” member posted a roughly one-minute video from the back seat of a car Tuesday night. Omar has largely kept a low profile since federal agents searched her home as part of a broader investigation.
Omar thanked supporters for their donations, saying the money would help her “fight Trump and his administration for trying to intimidate me and so many other people right before the midterm elections.”
“We know that they’re running scared, we’re not going to be intimidated, we’re not going to be silenced, we’re not going to be scared,” Omar said while speaking to the camera from inside the vehicle.
“I’ll be out there campaigning alongside all of you and making sure that we beat back all of this and that we win in the midterms — win the House, win the Senate and hold this administration accountable,” she added.

“Thank you so much again and please continue to support us,” Omar said.
She warned that the months ahead would be “very expensive and challenging,” and appealed for contributions of $5, $10 or $20 before closing with another “Thank you.”
The fundraising appeal comes as the Trump administration builds a case that could result in Omar being deported to her native Somalia. Federal agents seized her phone, notebooks, computers and passport last week as part of a years-long investigation into possible immigration fraud.
Omar has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
