Spirit Halloween Shopper Recalls Escape From California Store Shooting
A survivor of the deadly shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in California has described her frantic escape as gunfire erupted, killing one person and injuring six others.
David Bernal’s wife was shopping inside the seasonal pop-up store at Solano Town Mall in Fairfield around 8:30 p.m. when the shots were fired.
“She’s at home right now, still in shock,” Bernal told KCRA. He said she heard “five big bangs, big ones, like loud.”
The gunfire struck seven people, leaving one dead and three others in critical condition, according to authorities. Bernal’s wife ran from the store as the shooting unfolded.

She escaped “out from one of the exits on the other side of the mall,” Bernal told the outlet.
A manhunt is underway as investigators search for potential suspects. The Fairfield Police Department said during a Friday news conference that no one had been detained, but did not confirm whether the shooting involved one gunman or multiple suspects.
“This is still a very active crime scene. Detectives are speaking with witnesses and diligently working to identify the suspect responsible for this horrific shooting,” Fairfield Police Department Chief Dan Marshall said.
