Former TV Anchor Sentenced to Life for Mother’s Halloween Murder

Angelynn “Angie” Mock, a former St. Louis television news anchor who acknowledged fatally stabbing her mother in Kansas on Halloween, has received a life sentence.

A Sedgwick County District Court judge ruled that Mock, 48, can seek parole after serving 25 years, KWCH reported.

The sentence followed a plea deal that resolved the first-degree murder charge against her.

Police responding on the morning of Oct. 31, 2025, found 80-year-old Anita Avers suffering from multiple stab wounds inside the Wichita residence she shared with Mock and Mock’s stepfather.

A probable cause affidavit said Mock made statements indicating that she believed her mother was the devil and that killing her was necessary to “save herself.”

Mock’s stepfather told KAKE-TV that she had been diagnosed with a mental illness and experienced delusions and depression.

KWCH reported that he also believed Mock may have initially been diagnosed with bipolar disorder before doctors later considered schizoaffective disorder.

Although questions had been raised about her mental health, a judge determined in July that Mock was competent to proceed to trial.

She entered a guilty plea to one count of first-degree murder in August.

Mock’s LinkedIn profile says she moved into software sales after spending four years as a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 KTVI in St. Louis, where she worked from 2011 through 2015.

Before that, she served as a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011.
