Boy, 17, shot in Englewood dies

A 17-year-old boy shot in Englewood on Monday morning has died, officials said.

The unidentified boy, 17, was walking in the 800 block of West 71st Street about 11 a.m. when two gunmen confronted him brandishing guns and shot in his direction, hitting him about the body, police said.

The boy was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition but he later died, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

No other injuries were reported.

Area 1 detectives are investigating.
