3 police officers shot in Lakewood, Colorado

Three police officers have been shot in Lakewood, Colorado, according to local media reports. Authorities described it as an officer-involved shooting, and aerial footage showed a public transit bus surrounded by police tape.

In a 7:10 p.m. social media post on Thursday, the Lakewood Police Department said it was investigating an officer-involved shooting near West Colfax Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard in Lakewood, Colorado, just west of Denver. Police asked people to avoid the area.

CBS News Colorado anchor Michael Spencer said multiple sources told the station that three officers were shot at the intersection. Lakewood police have not confirmed the number of officers shot or released information about their conditions.

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) told KDVR that an incident involving a weapon took place on one of its buses. It was not immediately clear where the shots were fired.

Aerial footage from KUSA showed dozens of police vehicles at the scene and police tape surrounding the bus. The footage also showed a vehicle that appeared to have struck the back of the bus.

St. Anthony’s Hospital told KDVR it was treating one person from the shooting whose injuries were not life-threatening. Denver Health confirmed to KMGH that it had received patients from the shooting but did not identify them or disclose their conditions.

It is unclear whether anyone besides the officers was injured. Authorities are expected to provide more details about the shooting at a press briefing.
