This Western Icon Who Rose To Fame In The ’30s Has A Stunning Granddaughter – Nicki Swift
John Wayne may be an icon of a generation long gone, but some of the Duke’s heirs are still pretty young. While some of his children are in their 80s at the time of this writing, others are in their early 60s. Wayne’s youngest daughter, Marisa, is still gorgeous and has an equally stunning daughter, Carmela Ditteaux, whom she welcomed with her husband, Tony Ditteaux, in June 2004. Carmela is only in her early 20s, having been born almost exactly 25 years after her legendary grandfather’s death in June 1979. Despite the time distance between them, Carmela proves that Wayne’s good looks have endured.
As the August 2026 picture below shows, Carmela takes quite a bit after her mother, who in turn looks like the “True Grit” star. Mother and daughter share the same smile and the strong Wayne nose. Marisa also passed down her striking cheekbones and jawline. The Wayne genes are for sure strong. We aren’t the only ones who think so. Social media users — and even famous faces — often note the likeness, especially when Marisa shares her children on Instagram. “That’s how I remember you when we were all hanging back in the day! She looks just like you! Beautiful!” actor Jimmy Van Patten commented under a 2023 post featuring Carmela.
Others have pointed out that Carmela and her brother, Duke Ditteaux (named after his famous grandfather), have won the genetic lottery. “You two are astoundingly gorgeous. Perfect Genes,” an Instagram user gushed under a 2025 picture of the brother and sister. She might have the looks, but Wayne’s stunning granddaughter hasn’t sought a life in the limelight.
Carmela Ditteaux works regular jobs
While some of John Wayne’s family, like his lookalike grandson Brendan Wayne, followed in his footsteps in the entertainment industry, many live low-key lives. Carmela Ditteaux is among the latter. Instead of acting or modeling, she opted for a more traditional career path. Shortly before her 22nd birthday in June 2026, Ditteaux graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly), with a degree in Communications and Media Studies.
As her LinkedIn suggests, she is pretty down-to-earth and is looking for jobs in social media and content production. She even had the platform’s “open to work” frame on her picture in October 2026. Throughout college, Ditteaux helped manage the Instagram accounts for the John Wayne Cancer Foundation, the nonprofit organization established by the actor’s family following his struggles with lung and stomach cancer. “I am most interested in music, and in beauty and fashion brands with a real point of view,” she shared, revealing a passion that also runs in the family, as she is a first cousin to Jennifer Wayne, founding member of country trio Runaway June.
Ditteaux also previously worked the front desk of fitness studios, showing that there are no handouts here. Marisa Wayne celebrated her daughter’s graduation to share how proud she was. “Mustang out,” she captioned the Instagram post (seen above). Ditteaux also marked the occasion on her own account. “Lucky me @calpoly love you for life!!!” she wrote, sharing pictures from the same photo shoot. Whatever she goes on to do, Ditteaux appears to have a good foundation to succeed.
