Terrorist Attack Near Hebron Prompts Netanyahu to Close West Bank

Israeli authorities reported a terrorist attack near Hebron on Friday morning.

According to initial reports, two gunmen opened fire near Judea Junction in Judea and Samaria.

Five people were wounded in the attack, officials said, including several who suffered serious injuries. Israeli forces later killed the two suspected attackers.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said evidence recovered from the attackers’ vehicle suggested they may have been preparing to carry out an even larger assault.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had just finished a security briefing with the defense minister, the IDF chief of staff, the ISA director, the national security adviser, and the head of IDF Central Command.

He said the weapons and ammunition discovered indicated that Hamas terrorists had been preparing a major attack against civilians. Netanyahu credited Israeli troops with stopping the plot and offered his wishes for the injured to recover quickly.

The prime minister also ordered the IDF and security forces to impose an immediate cordon around Hebron and strengthen efforts to prevent attacks originating in Judea and Samaria.

He added that security forces were operating with additional troops and carrying out extensive arrest operations aimed at disrupting terrorist activity.

Netanyahu vowed that Israel would continue pursuing Hamas operatives and those responsible for sending them, declaring that they would have no place to conceal themselves.
