Suspects in Englewood CTA bus shooting that left passengers, 57 and 65, injured due in court
A man and a woman have been charged with a shooting aboard a CTA bus sparked over a seat last week that left bystanders 57 and 65 wounded late last month in Englewood.
Tyrese Jones, 19, and Destiny Jones, 18, were charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and aggravated battery to a transit passenger, police said.
The two were scheduled for a detention hearing Friday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse. It was unclear if they are related.
Tyrese Jones, of Mundelein, and Destiny Jones is of the Grand Boulevard neighborhood.
They were identified as the people who, on Sept. 30, allegedly participated in shooting and seriously injuring a 57-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman, both of whom were passengers aboard the CTA bus in the 300 block of West 63rd Street, police said.
An aspiring paramedic who witnessed the attack told the Sun-Times he was on his way home from work when a man and woman began fighting with another passenger over a wet seat, according to the witness and police reports obtained by the Sun-Times.
“Basically, the lady wanted him to get up, and he didn’t want to get up, so she apparently got to swinging on him,” the witness said.
When the argument turned physical, the seated passenger reportedly pulled a gun and fired, authorities said.
