Storm Team4 Forecast: Another rainy, cool day but showers taper off by night

4 things to know about the weather:

  1. Chilly & wet again Wednesday
  2. Rain ends Wednesday night
  3. Sun returns on Friday
  4. Nice, dry weekend

Over the last 48 hours, most of the area has benefitted from a solid 1 to 1.5 inches of a slow, steady rain. That rain will continue on through the first half of Wednesday before drier air from the north finally turns off the spigot.

Most of Wednesday’s rain will come east of the Blue Ridge with the highest amounts south of D.C. metro area and east of the I-95 corridor where another half an inch is still possible. Northern and Western Maryland, and the Shenandoah Valley, are not likely to get more than another 0.10 of an inch.

Though the rain will be over, skies will remain fully overcast Wednesday night and Thursday morning will be chilly and damp.

Highs Wednesday, much like Tuesday, will hover around 60° depending on how steady the rain is at your location.

By Thursday morning, the D.C. metro area and areas east of I-95 will be in the mid-50s while the Shenandoah Valley and Northern Maryland will be in the mid-40s. Thursday afternoon will be cool, dry and breezy.

On the whole, skies will remain mostly cloudy but there will at least be the chance to get a few sunny breaks with temperatures slowly reaching the mid-60s.

With partial clearing Thursday night, Friday morning will be quite chilly. Sweater weather for sure with plenty of 40s outside the Beltway. Friday afternoon and the weekend will be gorgeous fall days with highs in the low to mid-70s and increasing amounts of sunshine.

One thing that won’t change is the breeze. North to northwest winds will be in the 15-25 mph range all three days. Dry weather will continue on into early next week with temperatures back close to 80° by Tuesday and Wednesday.
