Rep. Ilhan Omar Blasts ‘Ludicrous’ Federal Probe in Fundraising Pitch

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) moved quickly to respond to the Department of Homeland Security raid at her Washington, D.C., residence, using a fundraising appeal Monday night to denounce the action as “ludicrous.”

“Please don’t click away,” Omar’s congressional campaign said in an email to supporters. The message claimed that Trump administration DHS agents had searched Omar’s home earlier that day in what it described as an unusual action being criticized as an authoritarian attack on a political rival.

The campaign alleged that Trump had been pursuing Omar since returning to office and characterized the home search as a major escalation. It called the investigation an effort to intimidate, silence and punish the congresswoman and the broader progressive movement ahead of the midterm elections.

“We have an obligation to fight back against this ludicrous, partisan investigation,” the email said, according to multiple outlets. It urged supporters to organize for what it called a major progressive election victory and to reclaim control of Congress from the MAGA-aligned right.

Omar’s campaign asked supporters to stand with her as the federal government focused its resources on the congresswoman, requesting contributions of $10 or any amount they could afford.

“We have to be ready for anything that comes our way,” the appeal said, adding that every dollar raised would help the campaign respond.

Homeland Security Investigations carried out the search under a warrant as part of an ongoing criminal fraud investigation involving immigration paperwork connected to the Somalia-born congresswoman.

In her first public statement following the raid, Omar said on X that she was “OK.” She accused the government of targeting political opponents and using federal law enforcement for political purposes.

“I will not be silenced,” Omar wrote.

A spokesperson for the congresswoman has maintained that Omar “has done nothing wrong.”

Omar is seeking reelection against Republican John Nagel in Minnesota’s heavily Democratic 5th Congressional District.
