Remember ’90s Star Mia Sara? She’s So Stunning Today – Women

Among the sea of bright-eyed, young talent in Hollywood, Mia Sara stood out from the crowd. She first cut her teeth on hit daytime soap “All My Children” in 1983, but shot to stardom with her most memorable role in 1986’s “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” Her acting career continued with further film and TV credits to her name all throughout the ’90s and early 2000s, but she faded from the public eye after 2011 when she took a voluntary hiatus from acting, barring a short film that released two years after. She came back to acting with the film “The Life of Chuck,” and its 2025 premiere sated our curiosity on what Sara looks like today.

Sara would definitely not count as one of the actors from the ’90s that are totally unrecognizable now, as the star’s beaming smile and glittering dark eyes remain instantly identifiable. The “Timecop” actor revealed back in 2012 the key beauty secret that she believed kept her looking so fantastic decades after her breakout role. “To keep your skin looking healthy and young, wear a hat,” she exclusively shared with HuffPost for the Beauty Street Style column. Yet at the premiere, she also showed she isn’t afraid of aging by embracing her graying natural hair color in a pixie cut, appearing happy and content with herself. It seemed that her decision to exit Hollywood was the right one, as the actor has had no regrets.

Acting was never the right fit for Mia Sara

Despite her string of success in the ’90s, it may surprise you to learn that Mia Sara didn’t really enjoy any of it. She never found contentment in acting, and it had never been her passion in the first place. “I never really had the resilience to deal with the audition process,” Sara confessed in a Sunday Times interview in 2026 (per Hello!). “There are some things in my career that I’m really proud of, but overall it was not a happy career for me.” It also didn’t help that making “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” was not something she looked back on fondly due to an added rift between her and the film’s director.

And so Sara willingly left the glitz and glamour of Hollywood behind her in favor of a quieter life. She prioritized spending time with her children and doing other pursuits she enjoyed more. But the prospect of working with acclaimed director Mike Flanagan on “The Life of Chuck” was something Sara couldn’t turn down, especially after she learned she was going to star alongside Mark Hamill. “Mark Hamill is like a dream boat of a man, like a dream boat,” Sara praised during a segment of “The Slice of Life Show by Pete Ferriero” podcast.

Although the star did confess to Awards Watch her fears and insecurities about returning to acting for “The Life of Chuck,” a supportive work environment helped her pull through. Truly, it was a long time coming following a more than 10-year break, and we were happy to see her grace our screens again.
