Police warn of attempted child luring along infamous O Block on South Side
Police are looking for the person responsible for an attempted child luring of a girl walking to school Tuesday morning along the stretch of King Drive known as O Block, which has become synonymous with street violence in Chicago.
The incident happened sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 6300 to 6500 block of South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, police said.
The 6400 block King Drive is known as O Block, a name that has become synonymous with street violence in Chicago. The block is home to the Parkway Gardens low-income apartment complex.
A girl was walking when she was followed for “several” blocks by a man driving a black sedan offering her money to approach the car, officials said.
The girl was able to get help from security officers and the man drove north on King Drive, according to police.
The man is believed to be between 30 and 35 years old with dark complexion and dreads, police said. He is believed to be between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-11 and was wearing a black sweatshirt and black pants.
