Police Seek Man After Attempted Rape of 83-Year-Old Woman in Manhattan
Police are searching for a man accused of attempting to rape an 83-year-old woman inside her Manhattan apartment. Authorities released surveillance video showing the suspect looking over his shoulder as he walked nearby.
The man allegedly followed the elderly woman into a residential building near Vermilyea Avenue and West 204th Street shortly before 9 a.m. Monday, according to the NYPD.
As the woman entered her apartment, police said, the suspect followed her inside, exposed himself and made unwanted sexual advances while trying to force his way into her home.
The woman managed to fight him off after a “slight struggle,” police said. The suspect then fled the building on foot.
EMS treated the woman at the scene for minor injuries.
Surveillance footage released by police shows the bearded suspect wearing boots, black pants, a black jacket and a black do-rag as he walked along the street.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
