Mundelein coach and teacher accused of recording student exercising and stretching

A Mundelein coach and teacher was charged with video recording a student while they were exercising and stretching.

Dagoberto Diaz, 48, was charged with felony unauthorized video recording of a juvenile, the Mundelein police department said.

On Aug. 18, police were alerted by the Mundelein School District 75 and 120 administrations after a student reported Diaz allegedly holding a phone that flashed while she did jumping and stretching exercises, police said.

Diaz, who is a teacher at Carl Sandburg Middle School and Mundelein High School junior varsity volleyball coach, had his phone legally seized and several images and videos were found that “corroborated the student’s initial suspicion,” police said.

Diaz was taken into custody at a family member’s home Sept. 22 and was taken to the Lake County Jail pending a first appearance hearing.
