Man sentenced to 32 years for fatal flag football shooting
A man will spend more than three decades in prison after a football rivalry turned deadly.
A judge sentenced 23-year-old Antonio Hawley to 32 years behind bars for first-degree murder.
Hawley was 18 when investigators say he shot 26-year-old Aaron Wiggins.
They were playing on opposing teams at a flag football game on the field at Watkins Elementary School back on Oct. 6, 2021.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said that there had been “continued trash talk between Wiggins and members of Hawley’s team.” The game ended with Wiggins scoring the winning touchdown.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said after the teams packed up, Hawley pulled out a gun from a teammate’s bag and fired at Wiggins 17-times. He died at the scene.
