Man charged with shooting of 1-year-old girl in Chicago Lawn home

A man was charged with the shooting Saturday of a 1-year-old girl in a Chicago Lawn home on the South Side.

Davaris Washington, 38, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a machine gun, reckless conduct causing great bodily harm and possession of a firearm by a repeat offender, Chicago police said.

Washington was arrested around 12:15 a.m. Saturday in the 6400 block of South Mozart Street where the girl was found shot minutes earlier, police said.

She was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, officials said.

Washington is expected to appear in court Monday.
