Man, 34, fatally shot in Portage Park smoke shop
A gunman was seen running away from a Portage Park smoke shop after fatally shooting a man inside the business Thursday night.
Jefferson Park District officers on patrol were flagged down by a witness who told them they saw a suspicious person wearing a mask inside the smoke shop at 5612 W. Irving Park Rd. about 9:35 p.m., according to a Chicago police report obtained by the Sun-Times.
Inside they found a man, 34, who was unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound to the throat
The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where he was pronounced dead at 10: 26 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and police.
A witness saw a male gunman running moments after shots were fired, officials said.
No arrests have been made and police were searching for additional witnesses and video evidence.
Area 5 detectives were investigating.
