Husband accused of killing wife in Aldie to be extradited to Virginia

A sheriff’s deputy cruiser sat outside the Northern Virginia home where Lisa Bradford, an accomplished real estate agent and mother of three, was allegedly shot and killed by her own husband Tuesday.

The Dulles Area Association of Realtors posted a message on Facebook expressing condolences and calling her a valued member of the community.

Her death has also shaken her Aldie neighborhood.

“We knew her well, yeah,” said neighbor John Niles. “She was a fixture in this neighborhood, she was on the HOA board, and just a really beloved human being. Really sad to hear what happened.”

New information revealed in a redacted criminal complaint sheds more light on what happened after her husband, Roger Bradford — who went by Paul — allegedly pulled the trigger and then fled the state.

According to authorities and the complaint, he called a relative, apologized for shooting his wife and asked the relative to pick up his daughter so she wouldn’t find her mom’s body.

The relative then called the police.

Loudoun County sheriff’s deputies found Lisa Bradford dead inside her home just after noon Tuesday.

The criminal complaint said Roger Bradford told the relative he was going to kill himself. Instead, he was taken into custody by state police on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Bedford County, a roughly two and a half hour drive from Aldie, at about 3:45 p.m.

“He actually left the scene by way of a rent-a-car, and we were able to track the rental car that went up to Pennsylvania,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman. “Pennsylvania State Police, we’re really thankful for their assistance in this, locate the car, locate him and take him into custody.”

According to the criminal complaint, Roger Bradford is charged with first and second degree murder and use of a gun in the commission of a felony.

News4 has learned Roger Bradford pled guilty to wire fraud in connection with a kickback scheme dating back to 2019 in Iowa. He was sentenced to prison time and spent years appealing and trying to clear his name.

In a court filing from January of this year, he said while in prison he didn’t have access to mental health services, worsening his mental health conditions. He was suicidal and was taking stong medication to make it through the day.

He said the fact that his marriage was headed toward divorce was “too much to bear.”

He described himself as a “gun enthusiast,” but as a convicted felon, lost his right to possess a gun to protect himself and his family.

His attorney could not be reached for comment

Roger Bradford is being held in Pennsylvania and awaiting extradition to Virginia to face murder charges. He is scheduled for an extradition hearing on Friday morning.

Tuesday, the sheriff said the gun used in the killing had not been recovered. News4 is working to find out if police in Pennsylvania found a gun during Bradford’s arrest.
