Don’t Blame Lorenzo Lamas: Why Fans Actually Hated His Hallmark Debut Movie – Nicki Swift

Lorenzo Lamas may have left his heyday behind, but he’s still around. In fact, the “Falcon Crest” alum made his Hallmark debut in the 2025 film “Love in the Clouds,” starring as a retired Taekwondo instructor, a martial art he actually has a black belt in and has used extensively in his TV career, btw. Unfortunately, his first Hallmark movie didn’t hit with fans — though the reasons had nothing to do with the “Renegade” star. On the contrary, audiences enjoyed catching a glimpse of Lamas all these years later. For many viewers, the main problem was a perceived mismatch between the two leads.

Starring Paul Greene, whose exit from “When Calls the Heart” still upsets fans, and “Passions” alum McKenzie Westmore, whose Princess Diana-related storyline on the soap opera went too far, the actors failed to establish suspension of disbelief in viewers who did not consider them relatable. Yet, many defended Greene, largely shifting their issues onto the female lead… and her bleach-blonde ‘do with very visible dark roots. “I am watching now and I cannot get over her hair. It has to be a wig,” a Reddit user slammed. Others had similar concerns. “Is it just a bad wig? Makes her look older,” a Facebook user wondered.

As for Lamas, viewers were pleasantly surprised to see him, even if they didn’t recognize him at first. “I didn’t know that was Lorenzo until I read comments. He has aged well and is still very handsome,” a Redditor noted. We agree that Lamas’ joining the silver fox club suits him perfectly. As for his future with Hallmark, it’s hard to say what’s ahead. 

“Love in the Clouds” isn’t the only role Lorenzo Lamas has booked in recent years. While his acting career has obviously dwindled, he appeared in five films between 2024 and 2025, including his Hallmark debut. However, all of his roles were minor. That indicates that Lamas still maintains his acting career, though his main professional focus has been flying helicopters. Lamas has lost a lot of his money in recent decades, a fact he isn’t afraid to admit.

When cash was flowing in, Lamas didn’t blink before splurging. But his TV success began to fade in his 40s and he saw himself in financial distress. He saw no option but to make career changes. “I’m not winding down my career as an actor intentionally. It’s just a crazy business,” he said on “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” in 2014. Instead, he began focusing on aviation. At the time he worked as a helicopter pilot for a tour company. “I’m in control of things happening in my aviation career. I’m not in my acting career. So, I love to act, but aviation is paying the bills now,” he revealed. 

Lamas retired as a professional helicopter pilot in April 2024, though he continued to fly charters in 2026, maintaining both his aviation and acting careers going at the same time, finding enough time to keep his original passion alive — or as alive as he could. It’s unclear whether there will be other opportunities for him at Hallmark. But if fans’ reactions to seeing him in “Love in the Clouds” are any indication, they probably wouldn’t mind.
