Dan Bongino tells Americans to take emergency preparedness warnings seriously

Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has urged Americans to keep emergency supplies at home, saying households should take preparations for disruptions to essential services seriously.

Speaking on his podcast on Monday, Bongino recommended emergency food, batteries, a radio and equipment to collect and filter water.

“Have yourself an emergency radio, have yourself some batteries, get yourself some emergency food, get yourself a rain collection and water filtration, some filtration tablets,” he said on Monday.

“Get your stuff today. Please. Do it for your family,” he added.

His comments followed a Fox News report that major U.S. bases should sustain essential operations independently for at least 90 days under the Pentagon’s FORTRESS initiative.

Bongino argued that households should make their own preparations as the military works to protect its operations. He also cautioned against assuming neighbors would have spare food during an emergency.

The appeal comes as Britain promotes its own household preparedness campaign. Launched on October 22, the government’s “Be Ready” initiative encourages people to prepare for three days of disruption to services such as electricity, water, phones and the internet.

The guidance includes keeping a small supply of non-perishable food and bottled water. Officials say households that can prepare in advance can help reduce pressure on emergency services, allowing them to prioritize people who need greater support.

The government says much of the advice builds on guidance available since May 2024, with severe storms and other everyday emergencies among the risks it addresses.
