Arlington block hit by gunfire 2 nights in a row

Gunfire erupted on a block in Arlington two nights in a row, and a man was shot and wounded.

Residents heard gunshots in the 2400 block of S. Lowell Street, in the Green Valley neighborhood west of I-395, on Wednesday and Thursday nights and woke up to find flat tires and bullet holes in their windshields.

“It’s devastating. I just don’t know what’s next. I mean, when is this going to stop?” one resident asked. She discovered her damaged car as she tried to head to work.

Officers were dispatched to the block at about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday. A man was shot outside and ran inside for help, police said. His condition was described as stable.

Several parked cars were hit by bullets that night, police said.

The next night, officers were dispatched back to the block at about 9:25 p.m. They found that seven parked cars and two homes had been hit by bullets. No one was hurt.

“I heard this – Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow! – and it lasted for a while,” the resident said. “That’s why I thought, what is going on out there? And it sounded like it was someone shooting at each other.”

News4 video on Friday morning shows the damage, with one bullet appearing to have flown through a car’s windshield and torn all the way through to its back hatch. One bullet hit a house just inches from its front window.

No information on a suspect was released.

Anyone with potentially relevant information is asked to contact police. Anyone with a home surveillance system is asked to check for anything that could aid the investigation.

Video released by Mississippi shows multiple angles of the fatal shooting of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley by a police officer. State authorities cleared the officer of criminal wrongdoing.
