$1,000 reward offered after mother of five dies following Southwest Side road rage shooting – CWB Chicago

Rosa Hernandez Rivera (Cook County Crime Stoppers)

Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about the fatal shooting of Rosa Hernandez Rivera, a 32-year-old mother of five who died Thursday, two weeks after being shot in a possible road rage altercation.

At about 9:30 a.m. on October 22, Hernandez Rivera was a passenger in a vehicle when someone in a gray sedan opened fire on it in the 2400 block of West 47th Street, according to Chicago police. A bullet struck her in the head.

Hernandez Rivera’s husband and three of her children were reportedly in the car when the shooting occurred. The gunman’s vehicle fled south on Western Avenue. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and succumbed to her injuries on November 5.

Ald. Raymond Lopez (23rd) has said he believes the shooting grew out of a road rage confrontation that may have continued for several blocks before shots were fired. CPD detectives are continuing to investigate and are asking witnesses and anyone with video to come forward.

“The tragic loss of Rosa Hernandez Rivera is another heartbreaking reminder of the devastating impact gun violence has on families and our communities,” Cook County Crime Stoppers Executive Director Paul Rutherford said in a statement on Thursday. “Even the smallest piece of information could make a significant difference in bringing those responsible to justice.”

The reward is available for 60 days and will be paid for information leading to an arrest or indictment, Crime Stoppers said. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-535-STOP (7867) or visiting CPDTIP.com. Callers can remain anonymous and will be given a confidential code number to claim any reward.
