$847 Million Powerball Jackpot Won by Ticket Sold in New Jersey
A single Powerball ticket sold in New Jersey matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s drawing, winning an estimated $847 million, lottery officials said Thursday.
The winning numbers were 15, 34, 41, 53 and 56, along with the red Powerball number 21. The ticket also included a 2x Power Play multiplier.
The jackpot winner can choose between a one-time lump-sum payment of $363.1 million or an annuity distributed over 29 years.
No tickets won the $2 million or $1 million Match 5 prizes.
At an estimated $847 million, Wednesday’s jackpot ranked as the ninth-largest prize in Powerball history and the second-largest jackpot of the year, according to game officials. Powerball revised the jackpot upward from $835 million, moving it from the 10th spot on the all-time list.

The previous Powerball jackpot was won on August 12, when a player in Illinois claimed a $1.04 billion prize.
Powerball drawings are held three times each week—Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET. Following Wednesday’s win, the jackpot will reset to $20 million for Saturday’s drawing.
The odds of hitting the jackpot were approximately 1 in 292.2 million, making the win extraordinarily unlikely, according to the lottery.
This jackpot run was the first in which players in the United Kingdom participated from the start of a mult drawing sequence, following the expansion of ticket sales there in July.
It was also the first time a lottery outside the United States contributed to a Powerball jackpot, the lottery said.
