12-Year-Old Killed, 4 Seriously Injured in State Road 40 Crash, FHP Says
VOLUSIA, Fla – A 12-year-old boy was killed and four other passengers suffered serious injuries after a Tesla crossed into the path of an oncoming pickup truck on State Road 40 west of Still Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP troopers said the 2024 Tesla Model Y was traveling west on State Road 40, while a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado was heading east in the same area.
The Tesla moved toward the right side of the road before its driver overcorrected and steered left, investigators said.
The vehicle then crossed into the Silverado’s direct path. The Tesla’s right front struck the pickup’s right front, according to the crash report.
The drivers of both vehicles and a passenger in the Silverado were not injured and stayed at the crash scene, troopers said.
Five passengers were riding in the Tesla at the time of the collision.
One adult and three children were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, FHP said. They were listed in stable condition.
A 12-year-old male passenger was also transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
