Small Plane Strikes Truck During Emergency Landing on Florida Highway
Remarkable video captures the moment a small plane struck a pickup truck while making an emergency landing on a Florida highway.
Two pilots were aboard when the aircraft developed a mechanical problem and attempted to land on Bayshore Road in Fort Myers on Saturday, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
In footage recorded from the roadway, the plane’s wings can be seen clipping the back of a pickup traveling in the same direction after the aircraft touched down on the asphalt at high speed.
The plane continued rolling along the busy highway, the video shows.
Despite the dramatic landing, no one was injured.
“Thankfully, this incident had a positive outcome, and no one was injured,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno told CBS 12.
“Given the recent tragic news involving aviation accidents, we are especially grateful that everyone is safe.”
Flight-tracking data indicates the plane departed Sebring, Florida, at about 11 a.m. Sunday and landed on the highway roughly 50 minutes later.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
The close call happened less than a week after a Learjet plunged into the ground and erupted into a massive fireball in Palm Beach, killing all nine people aboard.
Investigators have not yet determined what caused that crash.
