Video Shows Suspected DUI Driver Slam Truck Into California Restaurant

A suspected drunk driver transformed an ordinary afternoon at two Northern California restaurants into a terrifying scene after a truck crashed through the building in Concord.

Dramatic video captured the vehicle barreling through the front windows of Chicken Thyme and Kabob Craze at about 2 p.m. on October 25.

Several customers were seated at tables and eating when the truck suddenly struck the restaurant, sending shards of glass and chunks of concrete across the dining area.

Despite the force of the impact, no one was hurt. Fraidoon Jamshed, who owns the restaurants, said the crash happened so quickly that customers and staff had no chance to react.

“The car jumped up and down, and then it hit the curb and this curb, and just flew in my store,” Jamshed told KRON4 News.

“I had seven, eight people sitting there, and I was behind the counter. And thank God that it’s miraculous nobody got hurt. It was a miracle.”

Jamshed estimated that the truck may have been traveling between 70 and 80 mph and said the driver appeared not to brake before hitting the building.

“His foot was still on the gas, and we had to open the car and remove his foot from the gas,” Jamshed said.

The collision damaged a 16-by-16-foot concrete support pillar that helps carry the roof. As a result, indoor dining at Chicken Thyme and Kabob Craze, along with the shared seating area used by Little Thai House, will remain closed while the structure is repaired.

All three restaurants operate from a separate kitchen elsewhere in the complex, allowing them to remain open for takeout and delivery orders.

“We’re still open for takeout and DoorDash delivery, but the dining room is closed,” Jamshed said.

It is not yet known how long repairs will take or when customers will be allowed back into the dining area.

The unidentified driver was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the outlet. Authorities have not disclosed the specific charges the driver may face.

The California Post contacted the Concord Police Department seeking additional information.
