Elementary school in Prince George’s Co. closes after dozens of students, staff get sick

An elementary school in Prince George’s County, Maryland, is closed for the rest of the week after 48 students and 16 staff members got sick.

School officials and the Prince George’s County Health Department made the decision to close Princeton Elementary School in Camp Springs on Tuesday following reports of increased respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses.

Crews will do a deep cleaning and sanitization of the building while the school is closed, officials said.

Parents and guardians were urged to keep their children home if they have any symptoms of illness and practice preventative measures like regular handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes.

Officials said they would give updates about the school’s reopening and instruction plans directly to families.
