2026 Midterms: Chicago Chinatown Groups Encourage Immigrant Voter Participation
CHICAGO () — Community groups and elected officials gathered in Chicago’s Chinatown on Sunday to encourage residents to vote and provide information ahead of the upcoming midterm election.
With Election Day just over a week away, volunteers and local leaders continued canvassing efforts designed to boost turnout and connect residents with essential voting resources.
State Rep. Theresa Mah said the push to improve Chinatown’s political representation has been underway for more than 10 years.
“More than 10 years ago, Chinatown’s population was split into multiple districts, and people here did not really have a voice in terms of a bloc vote,” Mah said. She added that community leaders have continued working to educate residents about where to vote and which candidates are running.
The Coalition for a Better Chinese American Community organized the event in the heart of Chinatown. Volunteers went door to door and accompanied residents to a nearby early voting site, with particular attention to making the process easier for immigrant community members.
