Remember C.C. Babcock From The Nanny? Here’s What She Looks Like Now – Women

Fran Drescher may have been the star of the ’90s sitcom “The Nanny,” but who could forget her sassy rival, C.C. Babcock, portrayed by Lauren Lane? Tall, blond, smart, and attractive, Babcock wasn’t only the perfect sidekick for Drescher; she also brought sophisticated flair and comedic range to the show. As Maxwell Sheffield’s business associate, Babcock was as unapologetically forthright as she was confident and stylish.

Unlike Fran Drescher’s quirky mob wife aesthetic and colorful, over-the-top fashion, Babcock’s wardrobe leaned business-chic, featuring tailored suits, sleek dresses, and sophisticated neutral separates. Thanks to the show’s costume designer, Brenda Cooper, Babcock’s portrayer, Lauren Lane, was able to transform her towering frame into a large-and-in-charge vixen. “She made me look so beautiful and sexy,” Lane told VICE in a 2021 exclusive. “Back then, if you were not a wispy ballerina, some people would just be like, ‘How the hell do we dress her?’ But not Brenda … Brenda was like, ‘Oh, I know exactly how to dress you.'”

Decades after the show ended, Lane, now Head of Acting at Texas State University, looks nothing like her former on-screen character. She’s in her mid-60s and dresses far less conservatively than she did during her suit-wearing days. Instead, you’ll catch her in comfy sweaters, flowy button-up blouses with jeans, and a pair of fun, black-rimmed glasses. And while her blond locks now feature silver highlights, it’s far less polished than the perfectly coiffed styles she wore back in the ’90s.

The woman behind C.C. Babcock

After “The Nanny,” life would take Lane away from the cameras. At the time of filming, she was a new mom approaching 40, and after trying to return to TV, the task proved harder than she imagined. “If you’re Jessica Lange, you can work through your 40s and 50s,” she told VICE. “But the only way you can is if you have an Academy Award. That’s reality.”

Like other celebs that are confronting aging with confidence, Lane embraced what had become a more mature image and auditioned for roles that would see her playing a mother figure. “I auditioned to play someone’s mother, and the description was, ‘She’s in her 40s, but amazingly, she’s still hot because she’s a yoga teacher, etc.,'” Lane said. “I went in for it, and I gotta tell you, I was funny as f—. I nailed the lines.” However, she noted that the ’20-year-old white men in the room’ weren’t impressed. “That’s when I knew. I had to stand there and know I wouldn’t really act in TV or film for 20 years.”

Now the TSU acting teacher dabbles in theater work, appearing in productions like “August: Osage County, “Prelude to a Kiss,” and “Dress Code.” Promoting the latter on Instagram in 2021, she posted a selfie with her hair styled in a wispy bob with piecey bangs, framed by her signature glasses. Lane has retained the beauty and allure that helped make her a household name.
