Storm Team4 Forecast: Crisp, fall day in the cool mid-60s in DC area

4 things to know about the weather:

  1. Nothing but sunshine
  2. On the cool side Tuesday, Tuesday night
  3. Mild into the weekend
  4. Next rain Sunday or Monday

Let’s start with the easy part of the forecast. There is a 0% chance for anyone in our area to see a drop of rain until Sunday afternoon at the earliest.

Rain chances for Sunday night going into Monday, as of now, are dependent upon a tropical storm forming in the southern Gulf of Mexico, making landfall near New Orleans Saturday night and then racing northward into the mid-Atlantic.

All that is possible, but let’s get the storm named and tracked before we worry about that. So sunny days it is until further notice.

You’ll notice a much, much cooler start when you step outside Tuesday morning. Most areas are 10-15° cooler than Monday morning. Starting in the 40s and low 50s, we’ll end up mostly in the mid-60s Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday night into Wednesday morning has a chance to be even a bit cooler. There’s likely to be many areas north and west of Dulles Airport that drop into the upper 30s.

Even Reagan National, which hasn’t been below 53° since May 12, has a chance to drop into the 40s. For comparison, DCA dropped into the 40s for the first time last fall on October 16.

Without a cloud in the sky, highs on Wednesday should return to the mid-70s. Plan for near 80° on Thursday. A weak cold front will pass through Thursday night changing out winds from southwest back to the northwest. This will lead to some additional high clouds and a slight drop in temperatures.

Highs on Friday will be in the low to mid-70s. Saturday will be another few degrees cooler than that. Sunday will start out cool and dry. As mentioned above, we’ll be tracking the tropics to see if/when rain chances return. Until then, relax and enjoy what will be some of the best weather of the fall season.
