CBS News Chicago Crew Attacked Near Adler Planetarium
A CBS News Chicago reporter and photographer were attacked while preparing for a live broadcast near the Adler Planetarium on Monday afternoon, June 29, 2026. Both employees escaped without injuries, and Chicago police later arrested three people during a separate investigation linked to the suspects.
News Crew Assaulted Before Live Broadcast
According to CBS News Chicago, the crew was setting up for the station’s 4:00 p.m. newscast near the Adler Planetarium when two men approached them.
Investigators said the suspects allegedly shouted racial slurs during the confrontation. One man reportedly damaged the photographer’s camera, while another smashed the windshield of the station’s news vehicle.
Police also said the suspects directed a dog toward the news crew during the incident.
Crew Escapes Safely
Despite the attack, both the reporter and photographer were able to get away safely and were not injured.
The damaged equipment and vehicle remained at the scene as investigators processed evidence.
Three People Arrested
Later Monday, Chicago police arrested three people in the Brighton Park neighborhood following a vehicle pursuit connected to another incident in which a firearm was allegedly pointed at someone.
Authorities are investigating whether those arrested were involved in the attack on the CBS News Chicago crew.
The investigation remains ongoing.
