3 teens dead, 4th hospitalized after police pursuit ends in crash on I-395

Three teenagers are dead and a fourth is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after an overnight crash on I-395 in Arlington, police said.

Just before 1 a.m. on Monday morning, a Virginia State Police trooper attempted a traffic stop on Stevenson Road in Alexandria after spotting a stolen car.

The car, reported stolen out of Prince George’s County Maryland according to police, did not stop. The officer began a chase, police said.

The car entered I-395 at a high speed, heading north toward Shirlington Road. When the car tried to exit, the driver lost control on the exit ramp and ran into the right jersey wall.

There were four people inside the car, all believed to be under 18 years old, police said.

One passenger died at the scene of the crash. Three other passengers were taken to hospitals.

The car’s driver and another passenger died in the hospital overnight.

The last passenger in the car is still in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

None of the people inside the car were wearing seatbelts.

The crash blocked the I-395 exit ramp to Shirlington for about 5 hours overnight, but the ramp is now open again.
